Laptop Will Not Power On

In my time working with computers I have had many people approach me with laptops that will not power on. Like many computer problems, it is a complete mystery to the owner. They have tried everything that they can think of and the machine still will not power on.

When this happens, you have experienced one of two scenarios. Either the machine is locked up or there is physical damage to your computer or charger.

Fixing a locked machine is pretty simple. Just follow these simple steps.
- Disconnect the power charger
- Remove the battery from the laptop
- With everything disconnected and removed hold the power button down for 15 seconds
- Plug the battery in
- Connect the power charger
- Power the computer up

If this resolves your problem then there is nothing wrong with your computer and chances are this will not happen again. All you are doing is draining all possible electricity from the computer. This forces the computer to properly restart, there is nothing running around in the computer to interfere with the restart.

If this doesn’t resolve your problem, I would recommend taking it into a computer repair shop. Fixing hardware problems is something that should be handled by professionals. This typically requires purchasing computer components and replacing them on your computer. If your computer is still under warranty, this is something that will likely be covered.
